How much should I budget for a list purchase? First remember that there is usually a 5,000 record minimum purchase for each list. Then consider the following average costs per thousand names in a few sample list categories below:
Category Average Cost Per Thousand Names Business to Business files $150/M + base rate *competitive mailers will pay a higher rate Catalog files $120/M+ base rate *competitive mailers will pay a higher rate Charitable files $ 90/M+ base rate *competitive mailers will pay a higher rate Compiled files $ 75/M+ base rate *includes a random select without detailed information
These average costs are a good benchmark but keep in mind that adding recency, frequency, demographic, psychographic, and monetary selects will each carry an additional cost per thousand.
In addition to the rental rates per thousand you should allow for format fees (mag tape, email, etc) and shipping fees for each list ordered.
What is the turn around time involved in making a list purchase? On average you should allow for five to seven business days from the time you place your order with a List Broker. *This is just an average, some lists purchases can be fulfilled much faster.
